Book Covers & 3D Art

I wanted to cover some of the virtues of 3D Art and why I picked it over using stock art for my own work. While I'm happy to do either, the benefits of using 3D models, especially with how great they look now, overwhelms the time spent hunting for the right look, right outfit, right prop, etc. It also allows one to do less post production work on the model, ensuring it looks as natural as possible (example: adding a gun in 3D is a lot easier than adding a gun to a stock art person. It's not that the latter is impossible, it just takes more time).

Look below at some of the art to see the versatility of 3D Art.

Hair Color

As you can see above, hair color is not an option. How many times have we, as artists or authors, looked through stock art only to find someone with the perfect bone structure but the wrong hair color? It's not too crazy to change hair color in Photoshop but with 3D, you just pick whatever color you want. As you can see, I've shown the same model with Blond, Black and Green hair. Even unnatural colors are possible and they tend to look great. Furthermore, though I didn't go into versatility with makeup, there are literally hundreds of combinations when it comes to what the character wears. Lipstick, eye shadow, liner, etc, all are easily modified and made to look like what you envision.

Hair Style

Picture
I have hundreds of hair styles available but I elected to show only two: the super long and a super short. There are plenty in between and as you can see, I've picked another unnatural hair color. Furthermore, you can do SOME styling in these to make it look windy or just give them a messier look.

Eye Colors

Eye color can be pretty easy to alter in Photoshop but sometimes, not to the extent as you'll see above. I've got all the natural colors, of course and a whole bunch of crazy stuff. Note the black & yellow or the solid red. I've done solid gold which actually glistens like metal and total white. There are many possibilities, including vibrant colors (really teal or red for example) and all variety of granularity when it comes to picking the RIGHT eye color. They can, of course, be enhanced through Photoshop.

Outfits & Genres

Picture

Here I've picked a sci fi and medieval look. There are tons of outfits, modern, apocalyptic, normal...plus, I have access to fabrics to alter  them as well. The gun above is a nice prop and I've got swords, iPads, phones, knives, etc. There are a TON of possibilities as you can see in the above. The details are fantastic as well and many times, I can alter the textures to be different colors. Plus, lighting takes a place here as well.

These options allow us to take the same model above and elect to have her in a far flung future setting or turn her into a purple haired Joan of Arc.

Poses, Expressions, Backgrounds & Lighting

As you can see, we can make them move anyway we want and get different angles. The above shows our beginner model looking angry and pointing her gun up. The second is a pensive character sitting outside with a sword prop. The third shows a woman dressed all Goth hanging out with a white wolf on a city street. Notice the differences in lighting. All of this is easy to control and allows us to create some pretty fantastic looking segments.

Post Production Work

I've got a lot of time into Photoshop and can really create some fantastic scenes. Please see above the transition from a simple render (Top Left) to a completed image (Bottom Right). These things and more are possible with my 3D work. Please see some more examples below.
